Mitcham Korfball Club

Mitcham managed to secure their own preseason tournament title for the first time in 3 years. In a fascinating days korfball, the form book was often turned upside down. Nottingham beat Trojans, Norwich Knights beat Nottingham and Bec beat Knights. Bec also threatened to turn over Trojans.

The only convincing win of the day was Mitcham's opener against Bec which ended 10 - 4. Otherwise this season is destined to be a thriller. Norwich Knights showed they are ready for the premiership with fine performances against the top guns. Only as they tired towards the end did they lose their organisation and patience.

Nottingham looked a little understrength compared to their last seasons efforts but did outsmart Trojans. They also provided the tournament's top scorer as Jo Bedford bagged 6 goals. Mitcham were delighted that Carina Lamalas was the top female scorer tied with Bec's Heidi Terrington.

The last match of the day ended in a draw which handed Mitcham the victory. They started out with 2 goal lead, were pegged back to 4 - 2 down and managed to hold onto Trojans coat tails until the end. Mandy Dunkley slotted the last goal off the back.

It was a pleasing start for Kate Wragg and Craig Gosling who are new into the green side this season. Both played very well following their instructions for the day and contributing goals.

The performance of the squad in four close, competitive games has given me lots of selection problems. Luckily they are good problems to have, and the preparations for the start of the season will be interesting for the players and myself. Nick Donovan, responds to the tournament
